Be a part of humanities future history.

The Society of American Archivists defines an archive as “records created or received by a person, family, or organization and preserved because of their continuing value.”

How exactly are historical artifacts chosen to be displayed (curated), housed, and preserved in a physical archive?

As humans, we all collect items we find worthy of saving and preserving, such as, tickets to memorable events, dried flowers from special occasions, clothing, family heirlooms, photographs and documents that have been passed down for generations.

Unfortunately, many of these items are lost over time and never recorded. Not only are they important to you, but they are likely important to your local and worldwide community.

Archive Worthy aims to document our present moment through artifacts (any physical object made by a human being) so that we can provide conscious insight and participatory input in our future history.

HOW DO I PARTICIPATE?

  • Step 1: Identify up to 10 artifacts that you own and deem archive worthy.
    • Tips – look in your memory albums/boxes and roam around your house. Think about those things you’d grab if your house your house were on fire.
  • Step 2: Take a photo of those items.
    • Remember natural sunlight is best, try to avoid shadows, and a clean, white background creates uniformity.
  • Step 3: Between 1-10 photos of items may be submitted.
    • Don’t forget, the items must be in your possession, and you must own the rights to the images taken of them.
  • Step 4: A 10-word sentence must be included that is descriptive of the object.
  • Step 5: You may include an optional story about a memory of the item or an explanation of why you chose the object.
  • Step 6: Images must be tagged with 5 descriptive terms.
  • Step 7: Your identity will be classified by: decade born, gender, ethnicity, current geographic location
